Special Education Teacher (Part-Time – 2 Hours per Day 11 AM - 1PM)

The Living Room, an adolescent program in Princeton, NJ, is seeking a Part-Time Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative, student-centered environment and is committed to supporting students with individualized instruction and care.

Under the direction of the Director of Adolescent Services , the Special Education Teacher ensures that instruction meets each student’s unique needs, monitors progress, and maintains close communication with sending school districts.

About The Living Room

The Living Room provides a structured and supportive setting where adolescents can focus on both their emotional well-being and academic growth. The program serves students who are engaged in therapeutic services while continuing their education through individualized home instruction. We partner with school districts across New Jersey to ensure continuity of learning and a compassionate, clinically informed approach to education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver individualized instruction aligned with each student’s school district.
  • Assess student progress and modify instructional methods as needed.
  • Collaborate with sending school districts to ensure educational continuity and compliance.
  • Maintain all required documentation and reporting for district, state, and federal standards.
  • Create a structured, positive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Promote responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect among students.
  • Communicate regularly with school partners, parents, and staff regarding student progress.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support student success.
Requirements
  • Minimum BA/BS degree in Teaching from an accredited institution
  • State of New Jersey Certified Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) or equivalent Special Education Certification
  • Valid New Jersey Teacher Certification
  • Criminal Background Check required
  • Experience working with adolescents with ADD, behavioral, or emotional disabilities
  • Ability to maintain classroom structure, consistency, and behavioral standards
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver written and verbal reports
  • Capacity to analyze student needs and develop effective interventions
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Proficiency with educational technology (e.g., Chromebooks, virtual learning tools)
  • Reliable and punctual with a consistent record of professionalism
  • Willingness to perform related duties to achieve the objectives of the program
